Many thanks to all those who joined the ZOOM VIRTUAL NEUS 2020 last Tuesday. It was good to see so many from around the region. I had said that we would send around the recording of it but unfortunately there was a glitch on my lap top 8 mins in which ceased recording and sadly that will not be possible. Therefore I have summarised the meeting in a festive newsletter.

Presentations

Matt and Rajan did an excellent job of summarising the 18 presentations and gave a great flavour of the excellent projects that have been undertaken around the region. The North East should be proud of that. Also it was great to see so many Medical students, Foundation and Core trainee doctors involved. If we can encourage them to stay in Urology there will be some great SpR’s/Consultants of the future. The presentations will remain on the NEUS website and if you haven’t had a chance to look at them yet, please do.

PRIZES

After judging by consultants from across the region the results were as follows:

First prize and winner of the Pickard Plate for best NEUS presentation 2020 (£250 prize)

Paul Gravestock – “A phoney clinic? A patient’s perspective on telephone outpatients during a pandemic”

Second prize (£100)

Fawad Arif – “Audit of urology 2WW referrals”

Third prize (joint) (bottle of festive vino)

Eleanor White – “Making waves; A comparison of radiation exposure in rigid ureteroscopy and lithotripsy”

Sarah Holmes – “Keratinising Squamous metaplasia; a 10 year retrospective review”

Congratulations to them on their hard work and excellent presentations.

BAUS INFO

Mark Johnson has taken over from David Thomas as the BAUS regional rep. He thanked David for all his hard work in progressing NEUS and representing the region on BAUS over recent years. I’m sure his thanks is replicated from many of us. Mark gave a brief update on regional and national BAUS issues. His powerpoint slides will be uploaded to the NEUS website in due course for your information if you were not able to join us for the virtual meeting. If you have any BAUS questions/comments please feel free to email him mark.johnson27@nhs.net

NEXT MEETING

We are planning toward a face to face NEUS meeting at the Durham Cricket ground in NOVEMBER 2021. A ‘save the date’ notice will be sent around in the new year once we have finalised the date. It will be great to be able to meet in person and we will endeavour to produce an excellent programme.

We wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and hope that whatever your 2020 has been like, you get a chance to rest and enjoy during the festive time.
